Corrosion only gets really bad when your battery has a leak near posts. Acid reacts with other stuff to produce salts (the white powder) that hastens corrosion. A battery in good condition stays dry there. For good measure, clean all contact surfaces down to bare metal, coat with di-electric grease (silicone), make sure all is tight, and keep things dry and clean. Maintaining battery contacts are just part of a sound maintenance plan.

BTW, when I replaced my idler arm, I found white powdery substance on mounting bolts- quite possibly from battery acid dripping there at some time. That could also affect mechanical security of idler arm and other parts below the battery.

I have always glued a penny to the top of my battery's that have corrosion problems. It's a good sacrificial metal and only costs a penny and some glue

If you buy the battery with the caps this happens often. Thats why I hate them.

If your batteries are pushing out acid you have other issues .

I don`t have those problems

all my battery tops are clean and dry

I seem to pretty much have all Interstate batteries and a few East Penn Manufacturing floating around.

Cool point, thefishguy77

I haven't looked at material characteristics, but yes, certain "sacrificial" materials work and looks like you've proven that concept.
