Strange noise in 4th gear

Hi, everybody. I've got a 93 4WD 22RE pickup with 215k miles on it. Ever since I got it back from the shop (new clutch, timing chain guides, valve cover gasket and tune-up), there has been a strange sound when I accelerate in lower end of 4th gear and sometimes when I lift off the gas quickly in high 3rd. It sounds like someone is dragging a rake under the truck. It doesn't happen coasting or in idle.

I've taken it back to the shop three times and they can't ID it. Any ideas?

Any difference if the hubs are locked or unlocked? It is going into 4WD/low range ok?
Do you feel any vibration in the stick shift when it happens?

I haven't had it in 4WD since the repairs. I don't notice any difference in performance at all, no unusual vibration in the stick shift.

I just wanted to eliminate the front diff as the issue. So if it makes the sound when the hubs are unlocked and in 2wd then's its not the front drive.
Have you got underneath the truck and inspected the driveline? Nothing like seeing for yourself. Could be something loose.

If I heard that sound and I thought it might be the tranny, I'd be inclined to check the gear oil level and drain the gear oil and inspect the magnetic plug for any metal.

Also, when they replaced the clutch did they also do any other bearings?

They topped off the differential, transfer case and transmission on Thursday.

I'll slide under tomorrow morning before work and see if I can spot anything. Double-check fluids.

I don't think they did any other bearings. There's nothing on the invoice. Thanks!

Kinda odd. Not trying to cast doubt on them, but it's standard procedure to do the pilot and release bearing when replacing the clutch. Typically also resurface the flywheel.
