Yeah it just doesnt have the power it should (comparing to the old engine) it feels like its gotten worse progressively alond with the tap. You can actually hear it out the tailpipe

I'll bet you have a rocker arm hitting the valve cover. This is common with the 22r. You can't tighten the valve cover down to factory specs or it will make contact with the rockers.
If your valve cover gasket and rubber washers are not new, I would replace those. Then tighten the valve cover down until the rubber washers just barely start to compress. Then see if the noise stops.
Depending on how long the rocker has been hitting the cover, you may be able to see the shiney spot where they made contact.

Also I tried to run some cleaner thru the injectors, with no results Is there another method of cleaning them more thorouglly?? excuse the spelling

Just an update. Ive replaced the grommets on the valve cover to see if they were too smashed down. With no new results. Ive also tried injector cleaner in a few tanks and nothing. I tried to retime it and honestly its starting to sound louder?? It also accelorates much slower than it used too. WOT it takes about 8 seconds to 45mph. And BTW while i was at it i did a compression test 181-179-180-181..... just to count that out.

Ive currently parked the truck because of the issue its gotten a little to loud for me to risk trashing a new engine. I can here the sound thru the exhaust. I also noticed it seems to be running rich? when you depress the throttle past half it has a light puff of black... I also replaced cap, rotor, plugs and wires with Denso parts. Any more input?? I know this is probably just as puzzling to everyone else as it is myself.

adjusting the valves will take up the slack on the bottom side of the rocker shafts and keep the valves opening properly, but what about the gap at the top?
When the cam releases the valve, there's all that gap on top that you can't get rid of.

Well another update on my truck. I took it to a real mechanic (for once) and he set the valve lash. All but 2 were right on. And it didnt make anything but a minimal difference. He said tho that i have very low oil pressure (not sure how he found this out i dont have the sr5 gauges, just idiot lights). Could this contribute to the loud top end? Is there anything that could be blocked to cause this progressive problem? Thanks for the responses all

What did he say about the noise you're hearing?
To check the oil pressure he probably screwed in a mechanical oil pressure gauge, which you can also do yourself. $10 for a tester plus a fitting or two. What was your oil pressure? A number by itself doesn't mean much. Need to know at what RPM and whether the engine was up to operating temperature.
Years ago, my 22R suddenly started making an extremely loud tapping sound after stopping at a convenience store. I pulled over, my initial thought being that maybe a belt had broken, part of it stuck and flapping against something. It was that loud. I didn't see anything wrong.
I drove home and checked the valve clearances. They were all ok, yet this singular, loud, RPM-based tapping noise persisted. I couldn't pinpoint it. It seemed to be coming from the top end, but I could also hear it below. In retrospect, I wish I had tried using a mechanic's stethoscope.
The tapping persisted, eventually tapering off over several months, and finally went away. Later, I discovered I had a burned valve, though I don't know if the issues were related. Strange.
In your position I'd look further into the oil pressure situation. A mechanic said it is low. Get more info from him and/or check it yourself and go from there.

Its fixed! Somehow he overlooked an exhaust valve that was entirely out of whack. It is the quietest 22re ive ever heard, Ive been so used to the loud valvetrain a few times since i got it back i actually thought it died while coasting lol. Now i just need to figure out why the idle drops almost 400 rpms when you put it in gear (D,2,L,R).
