So my '93 truck was stolen and stripped a while back and it's been a long recovery. At least I got it back to be able to fix up again, lol. So one of the frustrating things they stole along with the stereo was the actual brackets. So I bought what seem to be the brackets, and from anything I'm able to find online, are the brackets for this truck. But they can't be, as they are about an inch too low, and set about 3/4in back into the recess.
I've looked everywhere to find an alternative, and can't seem to find anything. I'm including a screenshot of a video showing how these brackets fit up right into the top of the space on another truck. I notice that the top of the opening on mine comes out at an angle. Anybody have any insight for me?
There are some on this site who can look at a partial picture of a disassembled console, and immediately tell you the make, model, year, engine, transmission, trim and brand of cologne used by the owner. Not me. I'm going to guess you'll get a lot more help if you just tell us all that (put it in your signature so you won't have to keep repeating yourself). Where did you get the "wrong" bracket (and don't forget the part number). Finally, try a dealer site like https://parts.lakelandtoyota.com/sho...rimLevel=18380 to find the actual Toyota part number for your make/model/year .... It could tell you a lot.
So yeah, I've been through the regular channels. My current searches on direct dealer sites today revealed the same info and part as years back. I'd purchased the incorrect ones about three years ago from eBay and just dealt with it assuming that I'd messed up and gotten the wrong part. But it did the job enough for the time being. Just pulled up the old email from that purchase, it offered little other the listing title for the "90-95 Pickup / 4Runner Stereo Brackets", no part #. Before posting today, I'd found by inserting my VIN on ToyotaPartsDeal.com, the part, which only provide somewhat generic pictures accompanying what seem to be the same parts I currently have: 86211-04020 and 86211-04010
Looking at the website you provided scope103, I entered my VIN again and found what seems to be the same part, based on the diagram, but labeled slightly differently as 8621204010, a slight variation in number yet not enough to know that I'm not ordering the exact same product. These were the information cul-de-sacs I was finding myself in before posting. If anybody has run into this and found a solution I would appreciate the help. Thx -jD
Could you just move the radios up in the brackets? The screen shot and your pic look like 2 different models of truck. i.e. yours is a 90s era and the video is an 80s era. Possibly. Just throwing it out there.
@rattlecanpaint unfortunately not. My first inclination was that I'd assembled it wrong, but It seems that's the only way these fit together. The as far as the difference in vehicle models, the screenshot is from this video
of a '94 4Runner, mine is a '93 Pickup. As far as I can tell from searching out this part, and looking at diagrams etc. that's what I should be seeing. But I've yet to see anything that looks like my dash setup, or a bracket that would bring the stereo up and into place.
comparing Paul22RE's picture with Jeffe78's, it looks like the bracket is attached to the headunit too low on the headunit. I replaced my factory deck with a double-height after-market whiz-bang unit, and while I don't have any photos I recall that there were several places on the unit into which to put the screws in order to adjust the height.
If that doesn't work, it's possible that your replacement head-unit has "non-standard" (or, at least, not the same as a 27-year old Toyota) bolt spacings, and you need to use the brackets designed for that unit.
Besides the 2 bracket part #s that you mention (which say fit my 92), I also found part# 86211-35020, which some sites show it also fits my truck. That may be the bracket you need? Or as Scope103 said, maybe the head unit does not have the correct bolt hole location.
I am currently having the same exact issue, that is a 4Runner bracket and we have the “hilux” which doesn’t have the small extension where the bottom mounting portion bolts to.

This is what I was referring to. There is probably more than one place to mount that radio. I recall having to bend the little fingers that stick into a hole on the side of the head unit flat to get it mounted correctly.
