Steering making weird sound
I recently started hearing a groaning sound coming from the front end while i turn. I cant figure out what it is or where it is coming from.My dad says that the bushings are dry and i probably just need to replace them. I was wondering if you guys knew what this might be or know where i could get a bushing kit. Thanks Clint

yep I dealt with the same thing for 6 months, turned out to be the power steering pump. Check the fluid level, and also crawl under your truck and check if theres a bunch of black stuff down below where the pump is. youv'e probably got a leak. Got mine replaced for $175, not too bad..

Mine makes a groaning noise exactly like what you are describing. I had my friend turn the wheel slowly while I looked. It appears to be coming from the passenger side on my truck, near the idler arm. My idler arm is loose, so I am going to change the bushings in it. I bought some new ones, but I have not changed them yet. I will see if the idler arm bushings fixes the noise, but it seems too loud to be a plastic bushing. I am thinking that it might be a ball joint in one of the tie rods.
I got the bushings and a new dust seal from the dealer, but you can get just the bushings at the parts store. I could not seem to find the dust seal anywhere except the dealer.
Try feeling the ball joints while someone turns the wheel. You will probably feel a vibration on the bad one. You could also try using a mechanic's stethescope, or putting a long screwdriver to your ear, to listen to each ball joint and the bad one will be very loud.
