steering gear question

steering gear question
I have a 1989 4runner 22re 5 speed 4wd. At low speeds on rough road surfaces my 4runner bump,clunk…..left side
The steering gear will play,. if I push it up and down.Is it normal?
(look photo).Also,no problem with idler arm,pitman arm,steering damper,tie rod end,ball joint,control arm bushing,stabilizer bar link,bushing,shock absorber etc...like a new
This is not a photo of my car.
IT'S NORMAL UP AND DOWN?????

well, steering wheel freeplay approsimate 30 mm (1.18 in.)should I change the steering gear a new steering???...
