The full story and video are here:
https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f100...d-pics-184410/

The results:
Did a compression test
#4: 155psi
#3: 135psi
#2: 165psi
and wait for it...

#1: 40psi

So I did a leakdown test.
We are passing air out of the oil fill cap. So I guess I cracked something somewhere or most likely killed a pistonn ring.

oh my gawd!

that sucks man...

after watching that video, to be honest, it doesn't look like the intake helped much my 22re survived a hydro-lock after having a wave of water rush up the hood and up the windsheild with no damage; drove her home that night too after ditching the totaled air filter, and getting the water out of the cylinders...

but again man, yeah that's a total bummer

It's not a submarine... that was awesome. Was your goal with doing this way just to hide it? I'm just wondering because I got my safari from Craigslist for $80.

Great work though.

Well see the inner fender plastic ripped open when the water hit and streamlined it right to the opening of the pipe. It's rediculous. If you notice in the video the highest splashes came from the wheelwells. What's even worse is right before I did it I thought,"Lets see how this snorkel really works". I usually don't hit mudholes that hard and thought, "I'm not gonna let 2 Xterra's show me up". Who's laughing now?

My other intention was to get the outside Safari snorkel parts and complete it.

Man, 80 bucks? You got a steal. I thought $400 new was expensive. Now i'm finding out prices for new motors. Ugggh!!!

haha, well you could always just rebuild yours

but, I haven't even started to add up the buill so far for my build in progress, and I still have a large order to place with LCE, a list of parts to pick up form the stealership, and a bunch of other odds and ends of coarse, I'm a little OCD about a bunch of things, and I've already had more than one person tell me I'm taking this build over the top, lol, but you know what damnit, I'm building the way I want it, and that's all that matters

justfloorit - that sucks man. IMO, it was just a hydrolock waiting to happen. even a really really heavy rain could have probably done that if enough water splashed up in that wheel well. but on the bright side, now you've got the opportunity to upgrade from the 3slow

I saw your writeup. Nice score. I recognised that Windstar filter housing right away. I've worked on plenty of Windstars. They're junk!

superbleeder:
So you got some parts from LCE? I have their full exhaust (header back). Good stuff. I had their clutch kit but the pressure plate is too stiff. I kept blowing out Master cylinders and slave cylinders. Went with a Downey Superclutch and all is well. The rest of their stuff is pricey. Good luck. I like to do stuff one time and right so i'll prob. take my time as well.

Was thinking of rebuilding but I have to see the damage report first. I also found a place that sells crate motors and they offer a 22re with new head, oversize valves, minor portwork, and .440 lift RV cam for 2 grand. It also come with new balancer and flywheel

Not liking this down time very much. Now I have to drive my 12sec. Camaro around that gets 12mpg on premium.

And yes it's purple. I didn't paint it. I bought it cause I needed transportation for my Banshee, it had a newer motor, the 4wd worked, and it was straight with no rust.
