Starter replacement lead to clutch problem....Help!!

Hello,

I have a 1990 Toyota Pickup and I replaced the starter today. The fit was tight (so to speak) and we decided to unbolt a piece off the right side of the transmission. I'm not sure what this piece is but it directly affects the clutch. It appears to be horizontal "coil over" type piece with a metal nipple on the end that fits into a bracket. My buddy noticed when I pressed the clutch that the rubber type coil over expanded. We are trying to get this piec back into the bracket. Any ideas on how to get this piece back into place? We think the piece in question maybe the clutch pressure plate.....not too sure though. Correction, the piece is NOT the clutch pressure plate. Right now the clutch can be placed to the floor and it will not rise without being pulled up. Thank you for any help.

that's the slave cylinder....it's what engages and disenages the clutch

i'm not sure what you mean about getting it "back in place"...

and the clutch pressure plate is on the inside of the bellhousing bro..

might just go grab a Haynes manual or check out an FSM here online..and then do it yourself.

Thank you for the reply.....yeah I updated the clutch pressure plate comment. My mistake. What I mean by getting it back in place is that.....there are two bolts that connect to the tranny to hold it in place, and then there's a bracket that the metal nipple fits into. Right now the slave cylinder is expanded to the the point where we can't get the bolts aligned to the placement on the tranny. Any ideas on how we can shrink it back down to fit into the bracket.

you can open the bleeder on the slave cyl and push the rod back in. you might want to put a hose on it ,and place the other end in some brake fluid, like when bleeding brakes to keep air from being drawn in. if the rod is over extended you may have to reseat the seal and piston. that is if i understand the problem correctly.

Yea, just open the bleeder to replace the presure and push the plunger back and bolt it back in place.
