I tried starting my truck the other day and when i turned the key it made a neeeeeeen sound. It did this a couple more times and then it turned over, it still does this evey once awhile and i was wondering what it could be if anyone knows... I figure my starters goin? It's an 87 22re xtra cab. Thanks and sorry if theres a post on this i didn't find one.

Could be the starter. First, check all the usual suspects like battery and cables, Then, look at the excellent starter info that 4crawler has: http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTricks/index.shtml

neeeeeen?

my starter's never spoken to me before... well, it can't pernounce the "n" sound anyway

I just replaced mine last Sunday cause I got in my truck and it wouldn't start... a little click, but no turn...

but "neeeeeen", I'm guessing your meaning it's spining, but not engauging; typically from what I've seen, that leads to a starter fail, to the point where finally all it will do is spin and not engauge with the flywheel.

I would pull it off and take it to a parts house; most can bench test them, and if it does it of the truck too, then I'd replace her

just my $0.02
