starter problem

I just finished a motor swap on a 92 extra cab 22re. The starter worked before I jumped into this. Now the only way I can get the starter to turn over is with a jumper from the hot terminal on the starter to the little terminal on the soleniod. Any thoughts on this would be great. I checked the neutral cut switch ( auto ) and it looked good. I dont know it worked before. Thanks.

check the relay. I asume you dont own any good service manuals or books because you probably would have already figured this out. Id recomend getting a hayes or chilton book and/ or a fsm if you have the money.

all of these trucks ive had have done this.
try replacing the starter contacts with a contact kit and try new battery cables, or just clean the hell out of the contacts.
its worked for me so far.

have someone hold the key to the start position and bang on the starter with something.
should start right up.

If the starter engages when Corbit jumps a wire from the large positive terminal on the battery, to the small terminal on the solenoid, the starter, solenoid, and cables are good.

Problem lies upstream from the small terminal on the solenoid. Trace that wire towards ignition switch with a test light.
