Spring Packs???

I have an 87 IFS that is getting BJ spacers up front, and I want to match the lift in the back. I was planning on extended shackles to get the 1 1/2". I have 2 sets of stock toy rear springs and was wondering if i could build a custom spring pack to get the lift I want. If so, will it be too stiff? Will it help with flex at all? Any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated. And forgive me if this is just a retarded question, I am suspension ignorant and trying to figure this stuff out.

I assume its a pickup with leaves in back?

I dont think you could build a custom spring pack with what you have. AFAIK, the only ways to lift (significantly) with leaves is to create more of an arch/bow in them, or to lower their mount point to the chassis. Adding more springs to it will raise it the thickness of the metal, and to get 1.5" of lift I would think you'd need what, 4 or 5 of them? WAY too stiff IMO.

It is a pickup.
Thanks for the help. I guess I'll just go with extended shackles, I don't want to be riding on an anvil for springs.

I had a rancho pack in the rear of my 85 toy. and it was stiff as ˟˟˟˟˟ so i would get the shackles, thats where im goin in my 89 runner as well. 4wheelparts has them for 50 for both, and im gonna go for a 2in shackle w/ the 1.5 spacers to get better travel as well.

P.S. all toy trucks and runners had springs until 90 when the runners got swapped over.

Considered a Chevy spring swap? You can pick the ride height, plus a better ride, and better flex. You win all around.

What do I need for a chevy spring swap? What do I need springs from? Do I have to move the hangers? Sorry <- ignorance is bliss, but not very useful.

thanks

Try this.

a little lift and you get a really good ride as well. Add-a-Leafs are always an option too.

Skip the Add-A-Leaves. You'll either get a really jarring ride, or break an old spring. I'd suggest OME rear springs, with a mild t-Bar crank and the BJ spacers, you can match the 2.5in of lift.
