Spool vs. Detroit for rear locking?

Which would you prefer?

Price wise I'd like the spool, but the detroit seems to be a great alternative to a selectable expensive unit...........but I think having the rears fully locked all the time (spool) isn't bad either....and I won't get that clunking in the rear on turns and what not.

I had my spider gears welded, so it's basically spooled, and I love it to death. Cost me $40 to have it done. Makes your rear tires wear a little faster, tires chirp alot (which may be annoying to some people, but I love it. Scares the ลลลล outta people, makes them think your hauling ass into a parking spot when your not), and boy howdy it makes driving in the rain an experience!

But if your like me, it definitely would be nice to have selectable lockers, its just that I'm not made of money, so I'll go with the "Cheap but works!" method lol...

Spooling anything but a trail-only rig can be very bad news on the street. Go for a lunchbox locker.

if you drive a lot on the street I wouldn't recommend a spool or welding the spiders. But if you mainly drive it to your trail and back then it would be fine, just if you drive it to work everyday then a locker would be the best route.

Eh, I use my runner as a DD often, but other than the increased tire wear, it hasn't caused me any grief. But it's up to you, do what makes you happy!

hmm. I'm throwing a lock-right in the front, might just pick up another for the rear to throw in with my gears.

don't get me wrong, I have considered welding my spider gears, but my truck only makes long trips if the weather is bad, otherwise I might run around in town a little bit with it.

i'd go with a detroit for the rear. I have one, and it's not bad. Street manners are good, plus no noisy ratcheting.

yeah, the detroit is $200 more than the lock-right....but if it doesn't ratchet around turns that might be a good way to go.....

Do not spool your rear end. Put in a Detroit....or even better an Aussie.

Detroit. I've had one for the last 2.5 years and i wouldn't have it any other way. It is fairily quiet (just the occasional clunk) and well mannered on the street.

But giving a little bit of extra gas around corners in the rain is a wonderfully rewarding experience... if you are expecting it.
