spool?

What is involved in taking a spool off. Also Im looking to get a winch probably electric, but I heard it just drains your battery out. So then maybe a hydraulic winch right? Im not sure. Anyone have problems with electric winches?

How exactly do you plan on making use of a hydraulic winch? There isn't any room for a pump in your engine compartment! Just get a heavy duty alternator and an Optima battery, you'll be fine if you keep an eye on your voltage. The fact is, an electric winch should only be used in short bursts (less than one minute) to avoid killing your battery by allowing the alternator to catch up on charging it.

As for removing a spool, you will need to get a carrier with the spider gears and associated pieces to bring the diff back to stock. Alternatively, you could get a detroit and just bolt your ring gear on that (although I'm not sure if it requires an parts from a stock Toy carrier). However, there is a lot of measurement and technical assembly that goes into putting together an axle, so unless you have the tools and know exactly what you're doing, I recommend getting a shop to do it.

Or trade someone here for a stock axle assembly.

I don't know what all you have, but I would trade a open third for your spooled third if you wanted to.

As for the winch, get an electric. You could always run dual batteries. I just installed a 12voltguy (www.12voltguy.com) dual battery kit this past weekend with an optima under the hood and a deep cycle marine battery in the back. Install was simple and it works well.
