I mean speedometer!! This may be a dumb question but...

The only thing non stock on my 4runner are the rims (dealer installed in 86) and my tires are 235/75-15 instead of 225/75-15. The speedo reads 62 when GPS or radar indicates 55.

Will I need a taller tire to make my speedo more accurate? Thanks!

 

yup sounds right. might have aftermarket gears in it. other than that good luck

 

That's wierd huh? Nearly stock and the speedo's nowhere near accurate. Mine was reading a little slow when I had 4.10s and 35s. Put 4.30s in and now it's just about right on. Which makes no sense either. Because my truck had 4.10s and 225/75s stock. It should have taken something like 4.88s or 5.29s to make the speedometer accurate, according to popular opinion, but it didn't.

So, yeah, taller tires or taller gears.

 

I have a similar problem, onLY with my truck I put 16" rims of a 200? (I think) Tacoma with 265/75/16s and my truck will be running about 67 when the speedometer reads 60. Any easy way to fix this? I've learned to deal with it if there ain't, or I could always go back to one of my 4 sets of 15" rims

 

Ok, I'll say it. Rim size has NOTHING to do with your speedometer being off. Only the tires and/or different gears can change that. Geez.

and im sorry buddy but ask any tire shop, rim size does make a differnce.

 

Yes, you did forget to mention the change in tire size...

You could run 31x10.50x15s and then swap to 31x10.50x20s and it would have absolutely ZERO affect on the speedometer. This is because both sets of tires are 31" tall. Tire size affects speedometer accuracy, rim size does not. If you want to argue that, all I can say is wow.
