speed sensor help

So after finally needing to take my 4runner in to my trusty shade tree mechanic for work, I decided to ask him why my speedometer had bounce on it and why my cruise control jumps up and down when set. His very fast answer without even needing to look was that my speed sensor was bad. I trust him and his 50+ years of experience.
My question is, how hard is it to replace the speed sensor in a 95 4runner, v6, 4wd? Can it really be that difficult, I'm guessing it's a plug and play deal. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, its really quite easy. Located at the back of the tcase, remove just one 12mm bolt and the speed sensor will slide right out. Unplug it, install the new one, tighten the 12mm bolt, and VIOLA you are finished. Maybe 10 minute job. And thats if you take 2 beer breaks and a mandatory state authorized "rest period"

Your wrench should have looked! You may have a cable driven speedometer. In which case, it probably needs lubricated.

The '95 4Rnr Limited that I looked at, had a cable driven speedo.

Most car makers do 'running changes' to vehicles. Sometimes to start the integration of a new system and at other times just to test them out.
Good luck finding a manual that incorporates those 'running changes' or those 'retrofit' applications.

95 4runners had a cable drive speedo.

I think Toyota realized their mistake with the electronic speedo, and switched back

no kidding!! Any thoughts on why this rear I have have abs sensors at each rear wheel instead of on to the carrier? The rear came out a 93, and is going into a 93, I know my 94, and other years I have had...up to 95... had the 1 sensor on the carrier...never seen one like this before...and havent been able to find any info on it.
