Spare tire Carrier Removal??

does anyone know how to remove the little chain hoist for the spare tire carrier that is under the 1st generation 4runners. i have an 88 4runner and i want to remove the chain hoist if possible to clean it up and paint it and grease the chain and the inside of the hoist. can anyone help me with this??

There are 3 bolts that go through the top of the crossmember. If you feel up on top of it you will feel the heads. I think they are 10mm and you'll have to use a wrench. I'm planning to pull mine off tomorrow so if I run into any surprises I will post up.

I did it not too long ago - search on "spare tire hoist" I think.

There are 3 or 4 bolts that come from the top down. ONLY way to get to them is with a ratcheting end wrench, and even then, it's one click at a time...

Yeah, mine's been clanking around for 3 or 4 months now since I moved my spare and I'm sick of hearing it. I've been dreading it though because I know it's gonna be a pain.
