Alright ladies and gentlemen, I have asked this question before, but it has come time to actually DO something.

I NEED a spare tire carrier. The original under bed mount is long dead. I DO NOT want to kill my bed capacity by putting a mount in there. So, a swing away carrier is the obvious option. I've been looking around but the SOB's are expensive... I currently have no means to make one myself in my situation. I need a new rear bumper anyway at some point, so a combo would be great... but I don't have a ton of money to spend.

93 Pickup, spare would be anywhere between 31x10.5 and 33x11.5 depending on the next set I go with. 32x11.5 at the moment...

Options? Suggestions? Please help!

go to junkyard and get replacement chain and stuff for underneath. Cheapest solution.

i found a used on ebay for like 20 bucks....currently my tire size is too big for it....(33s or 37s) but it was cheap and easy to install

you should just get straps and throw it on top. i will look way nice and its super cheep...

I currently have no rack on top... that wouldbe kinda tough.

Get one of these. This one is mine. It was built to carry a 37" spare tire but I haven't gotten the diffs done yet so I don't have my 37" MTR's mounted up yet.

Well lets just say that it cost a lot. I bought the bumpers and sliders from Jeff at Badland Bumpers a few years ago. Last month I asked him to make me a swingout tire carrier. He modified the bumper to accept the tire carrier. His products are not cheap though. They are well made and have certainly stood up to the abuse that I have put them through over the years.

I was just reading this and I want to scream AHHHHH. I have never owned a toyota that had a working spare tire winch. I want to yell at them and go what the hell? You make everything great, and you cant fix this? Ive either had to cut the tire out, break the damn thing off or just say f"it and throw a spare in the back, losing my runners storage space. I fixed it finally by ripping it out, welding up a bracket to hold a spare on.. far easier. I have a set ofheavy duty bolted hinges holding up. Always works and hasnt rusted at all.

Sorry for this rant, but ive had above average luck in hitting that nail in the road and have a "meeting" to get that spare tire.

Like any part of your truck it needs maintance. It sits there getting road crap kicked up under it. Never had a problem with them on my 4 Toys (86 4Runner, 84 x-cab, 97 tacoma, 05 Taco) only one with the problem is my Trekker and it did not come with one.

My '85 4Runner spare tire winch still works fine. I hit is once or twice with a shot of lube when I remember, but it works fine. I do try to lower it once a year or so. Not sure if the older chain style winch works better than the newer cable style. I can fit a 33x10.50 spare underneath if needed. But now I have a rear carrier and mainly use that:

YIPES! For $700 bucks I'd rather just get the full replacement bumper version. I think I like the CBI Offroad version from above better anyway... and for $250 I might be sold.
