Some 33x10.5 questions....and more

Looking to stuff 33x10.5's under the new 4Runner. Of most of the vehicles I've seen with them it seems that a bj spacer/torsion crank is key in the front, and spring or shackle or combo in the rear. That part I get, but then on to the details.

1. With Bj spacers/torsion crank do you guys always run low profile compression bumps? I know that I will need to retain/shim the droop stops.

2. Wheel backspacing. It seem that most of the trucks I've seen with 33x10.5's have wheels that don't stick out further/much further than stock wheels. Would it hurt to run a wheel with 3 inch backspacing? Would this make the tires hit the fender in the front easier? I've always liked having a wider track which is why I ask, I would prefer to have a shorter tire and wider track width than a tall tire and be really narrow. 2 inches of track width seems to help A LOT with stability both on and off road.

33x10.50. stock suspension. stock wheels. personaly i think a 3" backspaced wheel will rub. i may not but i am pretty sure it would. curious why you would want to sacrifice height for width? height gives you ground clearance. going from 10.50 to 12.50 doesnt give you much of an advantage. but its your truck which btw looks good from your avatar.

Well I just got done beating the crap out of solid axle toys for 6 years, and honestly, that whole 1 inch in tire height doesn't mean diddly to me in the long run after my SFA addiction. I am remembering the IFS toys I had in the past that were really really good for, rallying and road driving, not to mention some good weekend warrior wheeling. I don't think that one inch of tire height is really going to do me a whole lot of good OVERALL vs. having a wider track for stability. Every toy I have ever owned pretty much received wider wheels/tires and it increased cornering and trail stability every time, which IMO is more important than 1 inch of height. I see the stability as coming in handy way more often than the height increase. I was just hoping I could do both, this truck is actually nice enough to where I can't justify dropping a sawzall blade through the sheet metal

Oh, and I already have a nice set of wheels laying around, and my stock wheels are not like yours, they are the cheesy old basic ones that must be 5.5 backspace or more. Being used to wider tracks, my truck kind of looks like a dog with it's tail between it's legs with the tires deep inside the wheel wells.

I like the stock wheels on your truck actually, I've had two IFS trucks with those wheels one them, much nicer than the ones like mine.

You will need to trim up the fenders for that backspacing. Not much, but, definetly the pinchweld. Assuming you are going to wheel it. Since you have SA trucks, is this just a DD around town? You can do the crank, and shim your lower bumpstops to limit uptravel as well. Tbar crank won't help you with rubbing fenders if you wheel it with stock lower bumpstops.

Stock backspacing is 4.75" If you go to a wider wheel, say 3.75" you will run into rubbing with the 33" tires. Stay with a 31 or 32 and you could run them.

I get rubbing with a 33x12.50 on a 3.5" backspaced wheel with 3" of lift.

Well I've had holes cut in my firewall at the floorboard to make room for tires, I'm no newb to that, but I'm done with SA trucks for a little while (let my wallet recover). Im just trying to build an IFS truck thiat is a bit more capable than stock. I was hoping I could use my current wheelset (15x8 3 inch B.S.) too, because I can't stand my little cookie cutter stock wheels lol. They just look wrong. I'lll probably just go with a 32" tire. I wish I could see what one looks like in person with a 33 10.5 on a stock wheel and drive it to see how it performed.

TC has EXACTLY that. PM him. He can shoot you a pic, or you can meet up with him. he runs a stock rim, 33x10.50, and zero lift. I run a 4" bs 8" rim with 33x9.50's, zero lift. mine stick out farther than his.

While troy's truck is more capable than stock, i think his dual cases and dual lockers do more for him than his tires.

yup. He got a sick deal on both cases, cleaned and painted, 4.7's in the front, twin sticks, and a crossmember/skidplate. I was pretty flabbergasted. Getting them put into his rustbucket was another trick all together.

Justin, I understand you. I was in the same boat. I like the 33's and all and I can understand the advantage and going w/a 10" tire makes sense. I kinda did half n half. I sold all my wheels including these massive 33x13.50 super swampers so that I could buy some 16" wheels. I found a nice deal on some tires in a 265/75/16 (32"). If I decide later on that I need more height, I can go to a 255/85/16 or a 285/75/16 (lots of choices). I got a 16x8 w/a 4" BS, which is what I recommend. It will give you a nice stance and will make it drive a lil more like you want. IMO, anything less than 4"BS is too much. If I go to a taller tire, I might have to lift or do more stuff, but I'll get to that when the time comes. At least with this set up, I have the same height and looks as a 32x11.50, but not the stress cuz my tire is 10.50"

Yep. To all of the above. Including the rustbucket part.
