I've heard yes and no on this. I can pick up a set of 33x10.5's BFG's on sr5 aluminum wheels for a good price. I'm planning on throwing them on my '90 pickup after I do the BJ spacer. I'm concerned that the tires won't clear the upper control arm and I don't want to run a spacer. Can anyone advise if I'll have issues. I do have factory steel wheels of which I could use if the backspacing is any different.

They clear. You won't need the BJ spacer for lift - if you want it for more droop travel that's cool.

The ball joints need to be done so I figured I may as well add the spacer.

They'll fit just fine. The 31x10.5x15's are the ones that come close or rub on the UCA due to the bulge of the tire being right at the height of the arm. The 33's place that bulge up above the UCA.
