i have 87 4runner 22re with about 180k on it. for the past month its been running rough and acting like its running out of fuel during acceleration. first thing i did was replace the fuel filter since i dont know when the last time that was(got the truck a yr ago)..cut the old filter open and it was DIRTY! then i replaced the plugs and wires, plugs were pretty bad. so now it runs better..but last few days the symptoms are coming back slowly...

any ideas? dont want to just start buying random stuff that wont fix the problem...

Try a new air filter. make sure the TPS and AFM are adjusted correctly and working properly.
