Just bought a 86 4runner, the guy smoked two packs a day, whats a good way to get out the smell? Its thats red colored interior?

 

That sucks! Try soaking everything with febreeze and driving with the windows open for awhile. If that doesn't work, I'd suggest an emergency flare and new interior.

 

Road flares and a new interior is looking like my only option!

 

take all the carpet and seats out and shampoo it and steam clean it. that should get the smell out, it did for me anyways.

 

Vinegar and shampoo the interior. Shampooing can help a lot to get the deep down funk since those guys can use enzyme cleaners and have the sweet vacuum to suck it out with. Diluted white vinegar works great just like febreeze - it'll smell like vinegar for a day or two but then goes away. Another trick is put a bowl or two of vinegar in the vehicle and close it up in the heat - it'll permeate everything and help get rid of smell. Don't forget to do some good cleaning on all the hard interior parts. I can only imagine what kinda tar residue is on the inside.

 

Febreeze works very well to get smoke out of a vehicle.
When I got my 99 Tacoma, it had been smoked in previously. At the time, I myself was smoking 3/4 of a pack a day.
I quit smoking and got real sensitive to the smell. I could smell it in the truck all the time.
I soaked everything from the carpet, to the door panels, to the headliner in febreeze every time I got in the truck.
After a week or so, the smoke smell was gone. Febreeze definitely works wonders and will get rid of that smoke smell.

 

Thanks guys,First i think im going to hot box it with vinegar, Then im going to do a soak in Febreeze. After all that im going to scrub it with Simple Green, Finally ill go to the carwash and get it good!

 

remove the whole interior. Especially the vent duct and stuff. Remove carpet and lall seats. Wash it all steam clean it all. Panels headliner window, uner the seat behond the dash crap. Everything. Scrub it all with a god cleaner. Rinse the crap outta it all. Let it all airdry for day. Scrub everything. Then before you throw it back together use some smoke killer all over the whole inside everywehre. Let it air. Put it back together. I had to do this to a few cars before. Takes about a week. But if you are meticulous it wil smell like a new car rather then cigs. Btw... I mean clean EVERYTHIng. Rip out basically the whole inteior to metal. And scrub every side of everything. I used to refur ish cars for resale... None of our cars left smelling anything like a cigarette... And some of em were so BAD there were ashes under the seats and cig butts... Gross stuff. Good luck man. It's a gross thing to do but ull be happy you did.

 

btw... None of what anyone told you will actually WORK unless you take it all apart... Trust me... You ned to CLEAN it ALL then soak with odor eating stuff...

 

4X4 is essentially right, unfortunately.
As an X smoker, drives me nuts too...don't know why it didn't when I smoked, but it does!

TSP is another product that will clean the residue off stuff. Pretty much, tho, you have to disassemble everything to get at where the tar & nicotine junk built up. Lucky for us, Yotas are simple to rip apart!

You'll feel better after you do it, at least!

 

Go buy a product called "ozium"
It'll eliminate the smell of smoke.
