Good information, akwheeler.

Does the Factory Repair Manual state how much play there should be?

I just remember seeing a maximum allowable number and "tighten and make sure steering does not bind" statement, but not a normal free play number.

I no longer have access to the manual, I am old school, adjust by touch, bionic torque wrench implant in my elbow and highly tuned assometer. I only go looking for specs when rebuilding engines or differentials and the like. It may be luck but I haven't stripped a bolt or had anything wiggle loose in over 20 years.

30mm (on the edge of the steering wheel) with "light finger pressure."

So an inch is "tighter" than spec. Nice.

Steering gear, front wheel bearings, shocks, and steering damper all replaced. Steering and handling is spot on now.
