Who installed the locker? Sounds like a fubar'd job.

I don't have enough experience to direct you adequately. Someone else will surely chime in. Maybe even ZUK.<<<He's psychic, btw<<<

when did the 'slack' start?....and what locker is in it?

Tell me more about how you put the locker in and how did you adjust the backlash.

EZ locker has about 30 degrees of slack ,Normal. The pull under throttle with a locker is probly a low tire.

X2 on the amount of slack they have alot, It is partly how they work. They do have some quirks when driving with them. So extra play in the steering will make it worse if you have any.
It stays locked up under alsmost any load and unlocks as soon as you free it up so it can feel like it is snatching and pulling. Especially if you are doing it on purpose trying to figure it out.

Those lockers create a bunch of slack. Another downside to them
If you noticed when you installed it, where you slip your pin thru the halves the halves are egg shapped. That is so the pin will ramp up the halves and apply pressure to the drives. It has to have a certain amount of slack to ramp and lock and then unlock.
I would call Detroit direct if you have questions. They will know before the parts guy

That 1/2" of slack is normal with lunchbox lockers.....that's about 20 to 40 degrees of rotational slack. Usually, with an auto tranny the quirks of the lockers are almost transparent. Loose carrier bearings and maybe loose pinion bearings could amplify the clanging noises. Some auto trannies shift abruptly also . My 88 V6 auto shifted like silk...best tranny I could hope for....too bad it had dark brown burnt oil with many particles of metal in it.....My other 87 22RE auto had great looking tranny oil but shifted abruptly even with numerous fresh oil changes and it tended to make "clangy" sounds on the driveline when it shifted.

thook--I gotta get myself a crystal ball like that!
