I am about to install a new timing chain on a brand new 22r. The new timing chain that I ordered has no bright links on it. That is all fine and good. I just need to know one thing, if my chain DID have bright links on it, would those bright links be at exact opposit ends of the chain. Or to put it another way; If you held the chain up by one of those bright links would the other bright link be directly at the bottom???? Right now I have assumend that the links are directly opposite of each other but, it is not to late to change it. The motor has not been turned over it is still on the stand.
The haynes book that you buy at autojunk shows a picture of the cam gear with a chain on it. The chain that they show in the picture has two bright links on the cam gear side. The timing mark on the cam gear is on an inside link between the two bright links.

 

I dont think they are direct opposite... the best thing to do would be go to a parts store, and take a look at one of thier chains, should have the marks. count the links and go from there... hope this helps.

 

No they are not directly opposite.

Look very closely, there has got to be some Marking to differentiate the 2 links from the rest. It took me a while on one chain I replaced but I finally figured it out.
