The 22re bleeds black today.

Well, I was headed out to the beach and all my accumulated bad karma just surged out the side of the engine block. So I just got my truck towed back and have a line up on a 22r block. I would like to ask someone who has done this swap before what I should have ready before I start on this project. I have access to pnuematic tools and the only work I need to do is to is strip the motor down to the block, my friend will help with the swap when I have it ready. So anyone who was in my shoes at one time please chim in and help in any way you can. Thanks, Mike

BTW, the new block is from a 2wd carbed truck.

22R and RE are same block. Some slight differences in the heads IIRC, and of course carb vs EFI.

only difference is late('85-95) vs early('81-84) engines -- an '85-95 22R is exactly the same as a 22RE of the same vintage, other than the manifolds.

That's exactly what I thought, thank you for confirming that fact. the head on my engine is entirely fresh as well as the valvetrain. I've never done a timing chain before, how difficult is that to hook up?

Leave as much attached to the engine your pulling as possible and do the swap with the 2 engines sitting side by side. Alot easier and you have a really good mental picture of what you just did to reassemble.
