Should Oil pump be replaced on 3.0

How good are the oil pumps on the 3.0's?

I have my engine out redoing the heads and I checked the rod and main brearings. I see a little wear but not bad. It has 190000 on it. I plan on checking the oil pump to the specs in my manual. I also remember that my oil pressure dropped some when it was idling. I can get one from Oriellys for $90.

oohh, that's a lot of work to just be doing the top end. why not get that crank turned, hone the block yourself and get some new bearings and rings. i know. more money, more time. but you know what they say, tighten up the top end and all that new compression will abuse the low end. unless it is in that good of shape.
but hey, i'm going on over six months on a 22re rebuild so i should probably keep my mouth and 2cents out of this one untill it cranks.

I had to have new main bearings put in at 206,000 miles. When the mechanic got to them he said they looked fine. I had them replaced anyway and my "thump, thump, thump, thump" noise at accleration is gone.

The front main wears faster/more and gets just a smidgen of excess clearance which can produce this "thumping" sound under specific conditions.

I have not had any thump thump noise did you replace your oil pumps? Basically I do time and money are limiting me. Someday I would like to do the 3.4 swap.

I didn't replace the oil pump. But again all I did was replace the rod/main bearings and thrust washers.

i really dont see what can go wrong with a gear driven pump that runs directly off the crank.

I took it apart tonight and checked the specs that I found in the manual everything was good. Any of you guys ever replace the seals in the steering gear?
