Short vs Long side LC coils???

Ive been searching all the forums, threads and sites and how gotten different facts and opinions about LC coils. Correct me if Im wrong, but the "long side" LC coils were to support the large gas tank side of the vehicles. Ive heard guys say that they installed coils of different sizes (5/8") and that it wasnt hardly noticeable. But to my main question.. Is it possible to install 2 short side LC coils without mods to my panhard bracket or brake line? I am getting BJ spacers for the front, but as for the rear sorry for beating a dead horse on this subject guys...but you guys have so much more knowledge on this topic
