shocks = bumpstops??

I pulled out a CV today to fix the dry spindle bushing, and when I was jacking up the a-arms I noticed the whole thing stops flexing upwards about two inches before the upper bump stop. When I unbolted the lower shock mount I could get another inch of up travel (that's as far as my little jack would go). As far as I know this is a stock shock, but it's also very likely that the previous owner swapped it out.

I assume this isn't the way things should be working, and it's probably pretty hard on the shock to bottom out constantly.. so do I just have the wrong shock installed or what?

Thanks for the help,

Isaac

IMHO, it's the spring rate of the torsion bar. I have replaced my shocks with stock length ProComps and there is still some rod left, but it's next to impossible to get it to flex to the bumpstop with the jack...

That makes sense, I hadn't thought of it.

What a job though - the worst part was I had to press out all the studs on the diff flange and since I didn't have a file or replacement bolts I just had to press them back in. Also I snapped the sway bar connecting bolt..

What a night

Sounds familiar ... LOL

Thanks to Yotatech, I learned about the bolts thing early and had them on hand.

Even with bolts in there I'd hate to have to change a CV on the trail. Seems like you've gotta practically pull apart the whole front end..
