Shift Lever Retainer: Replacement Needed?

So, after tearing into the shifter boot assembly on my 1993 3vze (with 5 speed R150F trans) in preparation for installing a new marlin crawler shifter seat, i realized that my problem is much bigger. turns out that not only is the shifter seat in about 3 million pieces, but one of the metal pegs that hold the shifter into its socket is sheared in half.

pictures:

is there a way that i can replace only the single peg, or do i have to replace the entire "shift lever retainer"?

if i do have to replace the whole part, do i have to drop the transmission?

any help or input is really appreciated, this has gone from what i hoped would be a quick and easy fix to a major headache

You do not have to drop the trans to replace the shift lever retainer. See the 4 bolts that hold it to the trans

Best bet would be to go to the hardware store and see if they have dowels. If not try and find a small bolt the same size as the hole.

we had to make one for my trans when we did the clutch.

used a small bolt and ground off the threads.

I discovered the same thing when I did mine: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...tainer-183154/

I ended up buying a new retainer.

Thanks for all the replies so far guys

I'm thinking that i will end up ordering a replacement retainer,
Seems like this part is under a fair amount of stress, i'd rather be safe than sorry.

i can see the 4 bolts to get the retainer off, but the clearance is too tight on the top two for my ratchets to fit
guessing i'll have to pick up one of those flex wrenches? what did you use flyingbrass?

thanks again, everybody!

I reached up from underneath using a regular open/box end wrench.
