Shaky Power Mirror

Shaky Power Mirror
Hello all,
I have a 92 4Runner, 330K with chrome power mirrors. Does anyone have an issue with the lense shaking at highway speeds? My mirrors adjust well, but they shake so much that it makes me a little bit sick to look at them.
I am hesitant to buy another set used but I'm not sure how pervasive of a problem this is. I can't find a source for rebuilt mirrors.

Good luck finding power mirrors, used, new, or otherwise. (But if you DO find one, let me know.)
At the bottom of the mirror is a small (4mm?) hole with a visible straight-head screw head visible. DON'T tighten it -- not yet. That screw tensions the clips on the back of the mirror, to hold them to the drive motor. If the screw is loose, the mirror will wiggle.
I advise you to put a stack of blankets on the ground (in case you drop the mirror), and carefully back out the screw until the mirror can be lifted out. Examine the mirror and the corresponding drive motor clips closely. If the screw is OVER-tightened, it will break a lug on the drive motor, and the mirror will have nothing to hold onto.
If it all looks good, put it back together and very gently tighten the screw. It's designed to stay put, but if your screw is 26 years old, you might have to put a TINY bit of thread locker on it.

Thanks for that reply. Mine don't look too bad so I don't think I want to replace them, I'll try and tighten them up later today.
Also, take a look at this ebay post: https://www.ebay.com/i/173457187098?chn=ps
They claim to be new, but I am skeptical....

Thanks -- I have the flipper vent windows, so my mirrors bolt to the door skin. Apparently rare enough that I've never seen an aftermarket replacement.
I wouldn't be surprised at all if these mirrors were new. They're lightly built from a strong plastic. Your old ones lasted 26 years. I would be pleased if a replacement lasted 1/3 of that.
People damage mirrors so frequently, that there is a profitable market for after-market mirrors. Compare that with, say, interior door panels. You could never make money selling those; not enough demand.

Yes I agree with demand, however, it seems like parts are slightly slipping away for these trucks.
My least favorite feature about my car is that I don't have the draft windows. Draft windows are great, especially if your AC goes out!
