shackle issue or Pull a rear leaf?

Hey guys I know a some of yall read my thread from when I was working on my suspension and was having problems getting the back lowered down to match the front. I ended up taking one of the two overload springs out and making a 1" shorter shackle to meet my front end that has the torsion bars cranked as high as they will go. My problem now is that it rides like CRAP! im thinking that its due to that shorter shackle and it doesnt have enough room to move, so im considering putting the old on back on and taking a leaf out of my OME springs instead. Any thoughts? Thanks!

It rides like crap because you have your torsion bars cranked.

It doesnt seem to be the front, if i go over a bump or a speed bump it doesnt start riding bad till I get to the back but I may end up loosening them and seeing if that help but I definitely think its the back.

Uh.......why did you have two overload springs? Was that two on each leaf pack/each side?

As I recall, suggestions were made for him to allow them time to break in. And, some, to even hasten the process by means of excess weight in the rear. Don't know if he even did that. I think I'd have to reread/search myself. But, nah...ain't happenin' tonight........

Looking at your other thread, it looks like your rear shackles are pretty darn short

yeah and I feel that a month or two is not enought for those springs to settle in , this guy just cannot take advice from anybody. he went ahead and took out a leaf and made shorter shackles anyway which no one had ever recommended to him. I hate people like this, come on here ask for suggestions and do his own thing anyway and then come back saying what he did didn't work. Just a big waste of time for anyone to help someone like that.

Personally I am done with him and this thread should really be just merged into the other one.

If your shackles are too short your springs cant cycle properly.

Yea I am aware that cranking your torsin bars make it ride rougher. Thanks. When I say rough I don't mean T-bars cranked rough, I mean makes my Z71 with a SAS and 44's ride like a Cadillac rough. I also Used to own a K5 Blazer like the one in OCdropzones picture, so I know what rough is and this is pretty bad. I'm pretty sure its the back also. and as far as that goes, if 2 months isnt enough time for springs to settle and it takes longer than that, Then letting them settle is not a valid solution to my problem which I knew to begin with, which is why I made the shorter shackle, which leads me to my current situation. And I do appreciate everyone's input (except the smartasses but sometimes even them!) but it doesn't mean I'm going to listen to every bit of it and it definitely doesn't mean I'm going to drive my daily driver around sitting 2" higher in the back and tell everyone "I'm waiting on the springs to settle". I'm just trying to figure out what has to be done to make it work and if I get 1 good post for every 10 then so be it.

do you still have your old shackles? swap them out and see if the ride gets better. If it does, then remove a leaf.

On the topic of the thread, When you lowered the springs and it rides like poop what shock combo are you using? Also put some serious weight in the back and put the springs through their paces. Sandbags work well. If you've tried that already might want to look into springs for your 4runner that actually meet your needs. Check out alcan springs they're pricey but i love mine. They custom make them to your specs so no prefab b.s. there just getting exactly what you order. If you go that route get some new non-cut shackles that are greaseable and call it good. Expensive yes, but lets be honest you get what you pay for.

What I'm a little confused about is how the rearend can be so much higher than the front considering a) the front has as much lift on it, and b) there's no lift other than having aftermarket leaves in the rear. IOW's, I'm wondering if the kit you have is not the right one for the vehicle. It's normal for new leaves to need to settle, but to be two inches higher than the front that has as much lift as you can go with (without a bracket kit)......something's not right. You said in your other thread you wanted a kit for 2 inches of lift in the rear. You also said you wondered if you got the kit for 3 inches instead. Have you looked into this possibility? Just seems to me if you got the right kit in the first place you wouldn't even have to remove/add/modify anything to the kit.

Well its not a kit but it is 1.5" ball joint spacers and t-bars cranked and the 2" lift rear springs from OME. Ive double checked the part number and they should be correct, The part number is the cs009(r?) so im pretty sure its all correct. As to you not being sure how its that much higher? Neither am I lol,It is a V6 rear end out of a pickup but that shouldnt be different. But ill probably be doin that shackle swap/ rear leaf removal tomorrow so ill take pics and let yall know how it goes.
