Seat swap time !!

Well, picked up some almost new seats out of a late model Hyundai Elantra . Would've liked some actual SR5 seats but no luck . Looks like it should go pretty easy, will try to get some pics of the process if anyone would like to see .

Don't think I will have to "make " any, front side looks like they will line up with just a gentle " tweek" to get the angle right . After that I willl have to see how the Elantras rear brackets will line up, probably just redrill for those and space the one side. (One side is higher then the other ) Another option will depend on how hard it will be to remove the rear mounts from the Toy seats and put on the Hyundais rail. Seats are pretty nice, no rust on anything, drivers seat has all the lumbar and seat cushion adjustments. Both recline. Weather blows here right now , so hopefully this week !

Getting started....

Wasn't raining today , so I decided WTF, lets get this rolling here ! First pic shows the reason for the swap... 22 years and around 350k miles on the poor stocker ! Second pic shows the locating peg that I removed on both front side mounts,, and also the way the front tabs have to be bent to match the angle of the Toy seats... or close enough !

Next ones shows bottom of Elentra seat and how the mounts are set off to the side on the rear... as compared to the Toys seat that are in line. One option I thought about was removing the ones from the stockers and putting them on the Hyundais rails, but that would render the Toys seats completely useless. Seeing as how there is no rust on them might be worth it to someone that needs some clean stock hardware for their rig ! Hint, hint, hint !!!

Free Lunch !!!

Even found enough goodies under the drivers seat for a quick lunch as I got started !! And enough change for a 6 pack of refreshment after wards !! Then 2nd and 3rd pic here shows how the front holes line up, followed by the new holes for the rear mount compared to where the stock ones are.

Rear mounts

Now on these 2 holes , the inboard one I drilled appears to have something underneath it, will take a closer look tomorrow when its not as windy and blowing all kinds of crap around my driveway ! Thinking its just the shield for the cat . Also trimmed away a bit of a rib that was by the outboard hole... so the seat mount base sits flat .

Well, went out this morning and looked things over... decided to take the mount from one side of the stocker and use it on the Elantra's seat, came out good ! pic shows the difference in height between the 2 .

Installed...

... look great and feel really great ! Drove it to dinner tonight and do sit a bit higher then before, which is great ! I attribute that to them not being old and worn out, nice solid feel and lots of support from them. Just need to modify the high passenger rear mount a bit ( above pic ) , but no biggie. Afetr I looked at the passenger seat, I suddenly remembered how it is different from the drivers seat in regard to the apparatus for the seat release, so I didn't molest that seat at all for the project. Now to move on to my sr5 panel upgrade, still looking for a nice cluster to put in. Anyone have one ... 88 or 89 4 cylinder .
