Saving Gass Question?

Is it true that putting 31" tires on my 95 4x4 runner makes it use mor gass. I was thinking of going to 33", but now I don't no what to do. If 31" uses more gass, what will 33" do.

The bigger tire you go with the more gas it will use generally. What size do you have now? I think the SR5 second gens came with 31s stock.

yes it takes more "gas" to turn 31s or 33s than stock. It also puts more strain on the transmission. Figure out what gears you have and change them to an appropriate ratio for the tires you want to run.

I'm now running 31", as this is what was on it when I got it. I do hope the gears are OK.

Also how much more gass does it us when running 31"?

your truck came with 31's stock so it depends on what smaller tire diameter you go to. Also you probablly have 4.88 gears stock which are good for 33's on your truck. there is a chart somewhere around here that says what gears you have based on your door sticker.

My standard tyre is 31''. Recently put on some mud 33'' with suspension and body lift. Used them wheeling over the holiday.

I have stock 4.1 diffs (2.4 Turbo diesel). Fuel economy was about 25% worse, poorer acceleration and noisy.

The 31'' are back on till I get enough cash to sort the diffs out. The 33''s go back on when wheeling.

Couple of pics showing the tyres I use.
