or, protrux in san marcos. i can't find their www page. they did do a change in ownership a while back.

i had my '88 4runner worked on by jim, ex-owner. they did a bang up job... installed a rebuilt engine and a whole bunch of other things.

good luck.

re: Those Japanese used motor places, I think they get them imported form Japan because Japan only allows their motors to achieve soo many miles before pulling them. Thats what I was told by the guys there, who knows where they came from. Check LA area though. I think there is probably a few more shiesters up our way that will do a decent job for cheap. Like I said I got another 100K from mine.

Abe - I don't think I have heard much non sense out of your mouth unless its Saturday night, music night. I mentioned the blown head gasket on my 93 3.0, which was affected by the recall, but recall service was already performed when I blew it again. Lame.

I'm still in it to win it guys won't give up. Looks like I can't really find anything on ProTrux, like the previous poster said they may have changed ownership and his last post here under his registered name was in '04.

Unfortunately I have to cap the motor plus install at 2k, looks like my ass may be learning how to install a motor myself. At least I have a motorcycle to get me to work and back for now. How long should a swap normally take assuming "some" mechanical ability?

Much appreciated, thank you, I'll call him first thing in the morning.

From what I've read searching these forums the '88 3VZE is different, wiring harnesses and some other things so I hope that won't set this whole damn thing back trying to look for a year specic replacement engine. Dalon may have an alternative for me, I hope.....

Well guys, got an update. After calling every possible phone # combination in SoCal I came up with this little gem.

http://www.mjmengines.net/aboutus.html

They're going to do a remanufatcured 3vze engine, labor and all fluids and running her in for 2450 plus tax. The guys seem very knowledgable about this particular engine and said they do quite a few rebuilds for local dealerships. Plus a 3 year 100k warranty with their install.... My fingers are crossed
