Safari Snorkel Install 1st Gen 4Runner
#21
very nice job; after my small lift and a borla pipe and such, I may have to tackle this one myself. What did you use to reseal/waterproof around the holes you drilled and cut? how snug is it around the big hole you cut? could it have been tighter? any changes you would have made during the process, now that you have it in?
Big hole worked out fine, but like I said, I had to grind it down a bit. Like I said, I'm not very imaginative so I dont know what would be done differently.

This thread just reminded me that I need to get some 4x4 front fenders so I can put my safari snorkel on.
Nice writeup! I knew you EFI guys had to do some extra work to install them, but didn't realize it was so involved.
I don't get why there isn't a LHD version of this snorkel though, must be too hard to come in through the passenger side. Kinda weird having the antenna divot in it on a vehicle that has the antenna on the other side, but one can't have everything. Does the snorkel block much of your view on the left?
One mod to the snorkel you might want to try is a piece of metal screening in between the air ram and the snorkel if you aren't doing a prefilter, it'll keep a lot of the bigger stuff that passes through the air ram grill (such as small bits of gravel) in a place that is easy to get at to clean and if it's not a super tight mesh it shouldn't have a noticeable affect on airflow.

I've been trying to figure out a snorkle set up for my Supra VMAF/battery swap for a couple of years now and just can't seem to find one that works. If I'd have been smarter I'd have gone with the factory set up and used a Safari like you did.
Guess I'm stuck with cutting the hood and mounting that pig under a scoop.

The mount is easy enough to make it just looks freaking strange. *grin*

Not sure how the flapper valve is gonna like sitting on top that motor rocking back and fourth

But I like that idea, and have often thought about if I had EFI what I would do..
Just pick up your MAF box and place it straight on the P-side fender, with the hose attached just like it is...
Then, you can run a flexy duct to the P-side firewall, and have inside air

I'm dreaming up a way to do it that uses something like this part...
So it's high and tight out of the way of passenger feet
