Hi all,
I have been wanting to replace the body bushings on my 4Runner for some time now. I replaced the bushings on a previous 4Runner with poly and I did not like the amount of noise and vibration they transmitted. I priced the bushings from Toyota and it was around $300 to $400 with shipping from multiple sources since no one had all of the bushings. That was outrageous. I happened to come across a post in the ih8mud forums and found a solution. Credit goes to liveoak on ih8mud for providing this information. Here is the thread post: https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/hel...ounts.1127849/
I contacted the seller and ordered the parts. It came out to around $80 including shipping from Thailand. The rubber durometer is definitely harder than the OEM bushings and they do not have the same profile. I put them in my drill press for a makeshift lathe and turned them to replicate the original profile.
Here are some photos of the bushings, from left to right; old OEM, new replacement, new replacement modified.
I do not know if the modification helped or not, but it made me feel better about the firmness of the new bushings. They installed just like the originals, but they did lift the body about a quarter inch. It may be from the old bushings being so compressed.
The driving impressions are pretty good. I thought it would reduce small vibrations, but it was about the same as the old bushings. There really has not been much change, good nor bad. Off road there has been a little less vibration. I think these are a good replacement even for the guys who would go to poly bushings, just use them without modifying them. The increased hardness and total lack of harshness would be a good alternative to the poly bushings.
I am glad that I finally replaced the bushings, my old ones were beginning to crack and split. The originals were about 33 years old, so they did their job. I think these are a good replacement for the price.
Cool, thank you! I had looked them up awhile ago, and have some different numbers.
The first two I show the same, the cushions up near the radiator core support
2)52201-35021 and 2)52202-35021
But in the middle I have:
4)52203-35090
4)52204-35090
The rears:
4)52207-35010
4)52208-35010
I ran into the same issue when I looked up the part numbers through Toyota. Bushing numbers 52204-35031 and 52203-35031 do work in the middle and rear locations. I looked at my old original bushings and the middle and rear bushings looked nearly identical. One had a groove on the bottom and one didn't, the dimensions are the same. I think this supplier makes the same part for the middle and rear locations for the sake of simplicity. I hope this helps.
follow up.
I ordered the body mount part numbers you listed, but from Amayama.
I pulled the poly ones i had installed a few years ago and put the OEM rubber ones in. What a huge difference in ride quality,
Thanks for all the time and research you did. Much appreciated.
This is a great find...thank you! Does anyone know if this set will work for an '86 Standard Cab 4wd Pickup? I've reached out to the seller on eBay about purchasing the part numbers vwrunner listed above.
I was hoping someone with a Pickup had experience replacing these or someone knew if the 4Runner and Pickup use the same bushing kit. I appreciate your help.
Thank you...I'd already done that before posting. Both toyota-usa.epc-data and Amayama pull up a 4runner after I enter my Pickups VIN or Model number.
Yeah, why they lumped trucks and 4Runners together has always been a source of confusion.
But your in the right spot. Just look up your part numbers, and if you accidentally ever pick a part that's for a 4Runner, and not a pickup, it'll tell you that it's not compatible for your application.
Select RN61L-MRA and try looking up the shell and you'll see what I mean.
The person the OP used never answered me when I asked about mine. So I just ordered off Amayama. Cost me more than the OP, but not brutal. Much cheaper than any USA source.

Thanks for your help! It took almost 5 weeks of back and forth between me and the seller for them to put the order together for me. Ended up being just under $90 with shipping and tax included for the same set that vwrunner ordered below.
I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the eBay order for my Pickup. Also, ordered a bed bolts set from 4Crawler that's on its way. I believe between those 2, it should cover most of what I was looking for.
