Question Rough idle and runs rough after warm up???

I have a 1989 22RE with automatic.
I can go out and start up my truck when it is cold and it runs fine.
If I let it completly warm up or take off down the road and it warms up it starts running rough.

Any ideas?

Thank you, Phessor

I found why it runs rough, the #3 cylinder is not firing.
It has a good spark and the plug is not fouled.
So it must be a fuel problem.
I will have to check on it tomorrow.

And I will check and see if #3 fires when cold.

Okay, I went out and started it cold. It ran fine and is firing on all cylinders.
What would cause the #3 cylinder to drop out after the truck warms up?

Thank you, Phessor

Did you ever find out what was wrong? I'm having a similar issue.

I had blown a head gasket and warped the head.
I still have not got it running correctly, timing chain is 1 tooth off.

Okay, so I had the head redone and got it all put together and adjusted the valves. Started it up and it still ran bad, even cold.
Started doing more troubleshooting and discovered that I had lost the #3 injector. Got a replacement and now it runs like a champ.

How did you find out that #3 cyl. was crapping out, did you listen to the injector? Just curious.

When I first discovered this fault I didn't have a clue why the #3 cylinder would drop out after warming up.
I had spark and I had compression. I was told it was a head gasket problem so I pulled the head and had it rebuilt.
I put it all together and it ran bad from cold to warm up. I tore into the wiring looking for a broken or loose connection.
Then I tested the continuity of the injectors and discovered that the #3 injector was bad. Replaced it and it runs like a champ again.

Ya you got lucky that you found that pretty quickly. My truck had 94XXX miles when I bought it and ever since day one its always had that little roughness to the idle well I did research and found that 22re's do that! But mine was even doing enough that it sounded like a misfire! So I did a list of things to it i seafoamed the throttle body through the vacuum hose cleaned the throttle body with seafoam and a tooth brush, change spark plugs and wires to Toyota parts, (it had Bosch spark plugs big NO NO!!!!!), cleaned the distributor cap out checked all vacuum lines for cracks I even took it to a local mechanic for help on the idle an NO ANSWERS!!! It still had a misfire on idle and idle only. On cold starts it would idle fine but after warm up was when it did it. Well I adjusted my valves myself, inwas kind of nervous cause it was the first time of me doing something like this but i did it .008 inches for intake and .012 inches for exhaust and SIGNIFICANTLY changed my idle I'm so happy!!!!! I'm just going to replace my thermostat and my temp gauge sending unit both less than $40 and I've got a practically new truck!! I hope this will help somebody one day cause im anal about stuff like this its like if I hear an odd noise or notice something unusual I just won't/ can't sleep until it's fixed! Gotta have my stuff running perfect or you shouldn't run it till it is!
