Rough Idle

I am slowly trying to track down the cause of a rough idle on my newly rebuilt 3VZE. I replaced the O2 sensor during the rebuild and just recently replaced the ECT sensor. The rough idle is still there.

Today I was testing the MAF as outlined in the FSM. It passed all the tests except the first one. When I use the ohm meter across the E1 and FC terminals it reads 0 when the MAF is fully closed and when it is open. Would this cause any problems with my idle? The FSM states that if it fails any tests to simply replace. Is there any way to fix this issue or do I need a new one?

Next on my hit list is the TPS.

Jason

You did a MAF swap on your 3VZE?

Not yet, but it is sitting on my workbench waiting for me to get motivated. I don't want to change anything else until I figure out this idle problem. I just read your thread and you seem to have the same problem as me. It's getting pretty rough when I put it in gear now. To me it seems more and more to do with the auto tranny.

If its not an air flow issue, Is your main intake hose leaking? Vac leaks anywhere else? Did you put new plug wires and distributor with your rebuild? How about valve clearance.... did you do the valve job properly in the rebuild check compression on all cyls if theres one or more that are low it may be realted the valve cleance and valves are staying open and you have improper valve shims... TPS?

I am going to re-check everything I installed. I am also going to pull my plugs, check the gap, then do a compression test while I am in there. I guess I want to eliminate the worst case scenario before I invest more money into it. I am also debating whether or not to rip/block off most of (if not all) the emissions stuff out just so I can eliminate any cause of a possible vacuum leak. I have literally replaced everything but the ECU and still having the issue.

I hope you find your gremlin I have been searching for mine for about a year now.
