Roof possible to repair?

As some of you know I recently rolled my 91' 4runner. The thread was deleted, for some odd reason... But I have been thinking, everything on my truck looks unharmed except for my front fenders, hood, bumper, and roof. Instead of swapping my motor into another 4runner, would it be possible to get my roof fixed? The rest of the repairs should not cost too much, I'm just worried about the roof. The frame is getting inspected in a few days, so if the frame is still OK I'd like to just repair the rest. Heres the pic, let me know what you guys think, thanks.


The roof is only damaged just above the windshield, pushed down about 3-4 inches, from my moon-roof back the roof is perfectly fine.

to answer your question, sure its POSSIBLE to repair the roof. would you want to? prob not, very costly and it just wont ever be the same. youve got a couple options tho, chop the top and make it a trail beater, or take your motor and put it in a donor, good luck, looks like a bad wreck you were in, hope everyone was okay

theres no way your goign to fix that. The only way thta thign will live again is with a cab swap. Kepping it a runner would be way harder but a pickup cab swap is alot easier. As for the rest of the repairs with and accident lie kthat everythign is out of wack even if it looks straight its prop not. In my opion if your want your rig to live again the best thign to do is a cab swap and sas. With a rollover lie kthat most of the axle housings and stuff are tweaked.

Well here's the thing, the motor, trans, and clutch in that truck have 5,000 miles on them. I am just looking for the cheapest route to go, repair this thing, or buy another 4runner with a blown motor... I imagine I could buy another 4runner and spend around $1,200, but would it really cost more than that to fix the roof alone? The fenders and hood are nothing to be worried about, I could come across those for cheap.

Figure this much...
A little dent from hitting a deer is costing us roughly $700...
And it is litterally a little dent...
That carnage dude...
I would go for finding a Runner with blown everythign and just swapin stuff...

you can jack it out but it will be weak unless you find another runner and cut the top off, but anyway you look at it its going to cost way more than 1200 to fix it right.. better to find a body or another runner...those pillars ˟˟˟˟ed up.

Yes, it can be fixed. It's a lot of work +paint.
Plan $5k for repairs of damage like that - and that's assuming you get a good deal.


I think the swap is a better choice, particularly if you have an ebay sellers account and can dispose of the remains for $.

Thanks for your opinions, that seems to be the route I'll be taking.

Being 17, I have little mechanical experience. I'd like to do the swap myself for the experience, so does anyone know who sells a book that guides you through the whole process? Is there such a thing?

There are several guys on pirate who have done cab swaps, if not entire body swaps... It'd be worth a red star over there to be able to search their posts.

No book that I know about, just find as complete a donor as possible.. Might be easier to find a truck with a dead motor and swap that way.. What's your time worth?

Ya, YOTATECH is your best book to buy. Great help and all the info you need is right here. This is the best it gets.

Thanks for the offer but thats a very long drive, I'm sure I could come by something local.

Does anyone know what Tacoma years I could drop my 3vz into?

Washington to Oregon isn't that bad of a drive, might be worth checking out, frame and shell are mint with a clear title. Sounds good to me.

Like i said i have a really good shell. 150 bucks plus 35 dollar title tranfer fee. It includes good windshield no cracks or chips, back windows. No dent or damage from what i can see. the interior is stipped out, no fenders or doors or hood, has opening for factory power sunroof. Zip code is 98270. And the transfer fee is cause my buddy who owns the 4runner is an car dealer and he has to transfer the title to you. Let me know, before we take her to be smashed up for scrap metal.

buy a donor, dont waste your time trying to fix that. my yota's been hit on the pass front wheel and the frame is tweaked and its a fu(king headache to work on teh front suspension. It's aligned surprisingly straight but it took more patience than a buddhist monk has! Still pisses me off knowing my tire is out of camber and its OBVIOUS. grrr

dont waste your time, get a straight truck and try not to crash that one

im actually in the process of trying to find a 86-88 stanard cab, shortbed frame. I got a P/S pump recently off a '88 parts but the owner hasnt gotten back to me on a date or deal to get the frame. :/

I plan to move my entire truck to a new frame with SAS and rebuild the motor in the swap. Essentially a complete truck rebuild. Though I have the knowledge to do it and most of the equipment, though a shop over a garage would be nice =) Xmas? heh
