Roof Control Switch question
Hey folks,
This past Saturday I swapped the soft top for the hard top on my 1988 4Runner SR5. I connected everything properly, but the rear window would not go up. I tried everything and finally caved and took it to the Toyota dealer.
The mechanic at the Toyota dealer was able to help me get the window up by bypassing the switch by the drivers side rollbar that needs to be engaged with a bolt.
He said the switch is blown and I need to replace it. The part number is 84880-89101. The only place I can find it online is at the link below, but I will need to order it from Japan and it's for a Hilux YN60L.
Will this part do the trick even if it's for the Hilux? Also, any other ideas on where I can find this part?
Thanks..

is your wiper all the way in the little holder deal and your tailgate shut all the way? either thing will make the window not work. Im sure youve done this but is the window lock button in the correct position?

Yes, I checked all of that stuff and it still wouldn't work. I am just curious if any of you have experience with this part # 84880-89101. It's a hard one to find and all I can get is something from Japan for a Hilux YN60L. Does it work?

Switch could be "Blown" as in:
1) Mechanically broken, as in using the wrong bolt and crushing it,
2) Electrically because using a soft-top exposed switch to the elements causing corrosion to its contacts.
If (2) Try cleaning it. Soak it with contact cleaner, or WD-40, or other rust/corrosion removing solvent, then actuate it several times til you get low resistance between contact terminals (there are only two).
Rinse with alcohol, dry well, re-install.
If (1) visit your friendly pick-a part
