I think it comes off with the dashpad. I don't know how it comes off though. I haven't pulled any further from my dash than my instrument cluster. I will go check the service manuals I have and post up if they say anything that will help.

Thank you very much...
I don't want to slice my hand open a second time...
I want a battle scare from each little thing I do for the 4Runner...
But not multiple scares from just one...

Ok, the books are pretty vague but it says that the dash pad is held on by 2 nuts, one bolt, and 5 screws. I think there is one in each end, some above the heater controls, and above the instrument cluster. Also, I searched around and one guy said if you pull the middle vents out you can just get a ratchet wrench in there to the mounting bolts but it's tight. That may at least give you a view of how it's mounted and maybe you can see how to cut it out or something.

Yeah I got the 2 screws to get the pad off and then the two screws to get the inclinometer of the brakets and then I was stuck...

SO I guess when I get back I will try to remove the vents to get in there, if not remove the dash cluster and get there...

I have to get the mounts not only for you amgraham
But I need to get them for me so I can jerry rig a mount in my 3rd gen

Yeah.. They're really a pain to mount without the bracket. Hopefully you'll be able to get it out of there. Dash work sucks

they are a little blury but i think you can get the gist of them. In the last pic the 3 across the top of the dash are tricky to get to. THe hardest on to get is the back middle. To get there, take off the glove box and with extensions and a deep socket 10m guide it up through the hoses and other stuff and watch what your doing through the vent you pryed off.

Im alittle late for the party but Im looking for door panels and rear seat int panels in gray for my 1st gen. They are very hard to find down here in good condition. If you can help that would be great!!

Youve probably already got the bracket off but Im pretty sure there is at least two bolts maybe three under the dash that you can get with a long extention. The left side also has to come off.

UPDATE:
Finally got all brackets out...
My friend sliced his hand open...
(dont' ask, long story short he ended up getting 2 stiches so not that bad...)

INTERNETROADKILL:
I Don't know how decent they were, I will go back and get pics off all the Thrid Gens In the lot...
(everytime I went back I kept forgetting my camera cause all my mind was set on was getting those freakin brackets off....)

YotaBoy:
I believe there was one 1st Gen that had the gray interior...
Again Will double check...

I will probably get back there myself around Tuesday, Weather and classes permitting...

It is a little off the beaten path...
But hey I don't mind really...
Gives me a chance to sit in a 1st gen for a while
(one day... ond day I will own a 1st gen...)

Also I check out 2 other junkyards saturday.
One had a Brown, with a brownish tan interior
And the other had a white one I think with gray interior, but again not 100% sure about this one...
I really need to bring my camera and such and write these things down...
