hey guys, i came across this axle housing in an off-road magazine, dont remember which and was curious as to if anyone has ran it yet or, if they think it may be a good investment of around 399 bare, and probably about 700 ready to bolt in, the link for it is

alright cool, I have been considering investing in one, although, how would it work on a 1980, (first time ever investing in an aftermarket axle housing.

 

I think it will be about 3" wider than your stock axles. Otherwise i'd say it will work just fine. Its just stronger and gives you better ground clearance.

sorry for bringing up the old thread, but its better than starting a new one!
I was looking at the rock assault housing for my own 4runner (along with a rear leaf spring conversion for spring and shock mounting purposes), and I see that there are 2 options on width: stock IFS width (I would assume that means I could just pull the axles out of my stock axle and drop it right in), and +2". Would the +2" housing use the 95+ axles instead? I'm glad to hear that people love these things so far, I'd love to hear more first person perspective on them if anyone reads this and has one installed.

Sorry, just saw this.

IFS width means you can run your stock axle shafts, 86-95, IFS plus 2 means you will need to run non-abs taco axle shafts.

 

sorry to do this to ya on this 'ol thread here... but is there a breaking strength difference between the taco axle shafts and the 86-95 ones? Would I still be able to convert to rear full floating disk brakes in the future? Would that mean I would have to use the taco brakes, or would I still bolt the stock brakes onto the housing with the taco axles inside? Is there somewhere I could look for this information, because I've done my due diligence searching, but it's entirely possible I'm a moderate idiot and missed the information staring me in the face. Thanks for your help onceagain, and one of these day's I'll finally wrap my brain around these things enough to start swiping some plastic. I just hate the idea of doing things twice. Old projects left me sore, if ya know what I mean.
