Ride Quality

Background:

Yesterday I picked up a futon type thing to go in my basement. Laid the back seat down and just slid it right in. My ride is a 90 4Runner and I replaced the shocks all around about 8 months ago with Skyjacker Nitro's. Up until now my ride quality has left ALOT to be desired. However with this futon thing in the back which weighs roughly 200lbs., my truck rides like a friggin' Caddy! (well, almost like one).

So what's the deal?! From the looks of it the suspension is drooped down about an inch or so more than usual. Is there a spring set up out there that will give me this nice of a ride once I take the futon out? At this point I'm almost tempted to just leave it in there!

what your perception of the problem with the ride "unladen" (i.e. sans 200lbs)

Too hard?

Skyjacker nitro is a twin tube shock with a nitro charge.

IMHO - the nitro charge adds a bit of initial harshness (with the trade off of big hit control and whoop fade control)

If you want to spend $$ to fix it - I try custom valved Bilstine 7100s with soft valving and not alot of gas in the res. The schrader pressure valve will allow you to fine tune the gas pressure...

i drove one of the 99 boats around for a while, sellin it for some old lady. the ride was sleak. of course even with the big ol 8cyl it didnt have a lot of pep. although u gotta realize it was driven by an old lady a bunch, so it was used to sittin at about 30. everywhere. all the time. so when i tried it out on the road i know the best against the speeds i reach in my dads maxima and my truck, i realized i could just bout keep up to it in my 22re. yea.

but as for ride... almost as nice as my truck. hehehe

I'll tell ya.. You want something to base a rough ride on?

Come here and ride in my Nissan Hardbody..

Roughest thing I've ever ridden in, and I've rode in some beaters.

Town Car's really aren't my thing. The Skyjacker shocks I bought were by far the biggest waste of money I have spent in a long time. I will never buy them again.

I was really just wondering if there was a spring set up that would still do well off road but yet maintain somewhat of a softer ride.

i totally feel ya. i want a little more flex off my truck, and i know for a fact the rear shocks are limiting downtravel, but i cant find exactly what i want. almost want to go stock, but a little longer, but at the same time i think i want a little stiffer. however, price is a biggy as always with me. otherwise id go bilstein and call it poned.

i know if you have shocks too stiff for how heavy your vehicle is it will cause a really rough ride, even a little bit of weight will make the difference, i found this out when i was driving around without my front diff for a while, the ride got hard as hell with it out
