RIDDLE ME THIS....(pinging issues with pics on a 3vze)

Riddle me this Riddle me that!
I've got my pinging figured out thereby skinning the cat!
Once my top end rebuild is done,
advancing my timing to 15* BTDC will be fun!
And pinging free with 87 octane,
but can you figure out why I pinged on 93 without going insane?

Here's a hint!

EDIT: I do have a question but im going to field some guesses to my riddle first! hehe winner gets a cookie!

Your plugs were the wrong temperature. They could'nt handle the high test boogie juice. Aviator

Which plug cures the ping? How do you find out the temperature of a spark plug? My engine pings on NGK V-Groove plugs, which is why I run 91 octane. Educate me please.

well when i posted this, I thought the plugs were way to hot of a range, but according to Denso's site the "16" is the correct heat range for the 3vz-e. I think that Im going to keep these plugs until my HG replacement is done then see how it fairs...

It sounds like someone rattling a marble around in a soda can. Severe pre-ignition sounds like your neighbor hitting a 2x4 with a ball peen hammer. A 'little' pinging is not too detrimental. Many engines with lots of miles have issues that contribute to pinging (namely, carbon build-up in the combustion chamber).

Sever pre-ignition melts spark plug electrodes and knocks holes in pistons.

Mine would sound like a single marble inside of a steel can whose walls were about 1/2" thick. It would only be there at WOT around 3800-4000rpm and then again at cruise. Putting in 93 octane would alleivate most all of the pinging, while adding a bottle of octane booster would keep ALL pinging away, but I only did that 2 times. Incidentally when it would ping at those RPM's it would only ping 3 or 4 times a second. If only one cylinder is pinging that still means that there are several firings of that cylinder without pinging btwn pings, meaning my knock sensor was working!

Ill be able to get rid of ALL of my carbon deposits doing my HG, so that should alleviate the ping.
