revs up when clutch pushed in

I was driving around yesterday and everytime i would push in the clutch while downshifting, the motor would rev up. If I hooked under the gas pedal and pulled it towards me, then the idle would drop down. rebuilt carb and just put a new intake manifold gasket on and all new vaccum lines. could it be my throttle cable maybe? It does have some little frays where it attaches to the carb and not sure if they might be catching? I'm going to get a new one anyways, but not sure if that's the problem. could it be that the carb needs a little adjustment?

my truck had a similar problem and it was a missing spring on the carb. if i remember right the spring is doubled. one inside the other.

Well, I kind of got this figured out. It's just that my throttle cable is sticking a little. Be replacing that soon. Now that I've been driving though the truck is weird going through gears. I'll try to explain the best I can here without dragging it out too long:
If I take it easy and just go through the gears to get up to speed to 30 mph, there's no issue. When I want to get up to 30 mph quickly, the engine speed increases more than the vehicle speed. I don't get up speed any faster than if I'm not in a hurry. This weekend I'll be installing a tach so that I can see what the motor is running rpm wise because the po put on this dang exhaust that sounds like a little honda that drives me crazy. Not sure what to look for before having to get into actually dropping the tranny. Any suggestions?

Much more likely that your carb/throttle/pedal is sticking slightly.

Very unlikely it's the transmission, you'd be hearing it if you had enough drag to bog the engine.

-edit Wait is your clutch slipping too?

I'm a little confused on what the actual definition of slipping is but if I try getting up into speed quickly, the motor speed increases but the truck speed doesn't really reflect that.

I just looked up some detailed descriptions of how a hydraulic clutch works and I'll try adjusting my pushrod out more. I just went out and looked, and my push rod is almost touching the clutch pedal. I'll get that adjusted out more before I leave work today then post when I get home how it went.

Last night at home I adjusted the push rod almost all of the way out towards the firewall. This morning while driving, it seems to be worse now. I'm lost.

Sounds like you have 2 problems, worn throttle cable and a worn clutch.
