Replacing t-stat gasket
when you replace the thermostat is it necessary to replace the gasket? mine is only a year old, but im looking to replace the thermostat. Dont want to have any leaks. Does napa sell the gasket?

yeah, if napa carries it ill replace it. ill also check autozone. If its a dealer part ill just reuse it with some rtv. Dealership is hell to get to around here, but great service.

No, they are not technically reusable. They should be available at most auto parts stores. I usually buy a couple at a time just to have spares since they are only $2-3/ea. They could probably be used twice if the gasket was fairly new, but I figure just replacing it with a new one saves me at least $3 worth of time and trouble if the old one leaked.

After replacing the thermostat just now, I looked at the old gasket and even though it has only bee a year, the old gasket has stretched a little and is loose on the gasket. The new one fits the new thermostat nicely.
