Replacing head gasket

As many of you all have read my other post I blew a head gasket. Is there any crazy things I should know about before I try to tackle this? I am pretty mech. inclined and I have a Haynes manual and alot of tools, but I have never done this before. Should I do this or pay to have someone else do it?

It's fine.. Just understand the cam / distributor timing before you start..
Otherwise, mark your chain / top sprocket / distributor very well so you can put it back exactly like you found it.

Might want to have your check checked out.

first off get yourself a Toyota FSM specific to your model year. You have NO idea how useful it is!!!! When im bored at an airport and too cheap to buy internet, ill read through mine. What you'll find in there is amazing....

Also what engine do you have? 22r, 22re, 22ret, 3vze, 5vzfe, gremazflk mark 10 (whatever the new 4.0L v6 is...lol) Edit yer sig so we know what engine you have.

ps welcome to yota tech!

yes since you have a 95, you either have a 22re (4cylinder) or a 3vz-e (v-6).

22re's scare me...all that engine bay room, is just spooky! lol

hahahahaha the words spoken form a 3vze man like myself i feel ya on that one bumpin' but im sure wouldnt mind the room i like more power better though.

as for you yz if you dont even know the engine your runner has id read the manual cover to cover before you get started and have a good understanding of timing and keep track of everything i.e. vacume lines (they are a bitch) and bolts, studs, nuts everything! and dont put your gaskets on backwards lol that one is frustrating.

It's funny when people ask advice in threads like this and don't say what the engine is.

Even funnier when they come back and post in the thread where people have asked and still don't give the info...
