replacing battery cables

I have searched but haven't found out any how-tos. I noticed my battery terminals and cables are basically shot. sometimes my 4runner won't start up so i have to pop the hood and wiggle around the terminals to get it to start. I want to replace both of the cables and terminals. How do you replace the batter cables (both postivie and negative). im such a noob so i thought it couldn't hurt to ask. anyone have directions or a write-up or anything. Thanks.

I am not a mechanic so truct me when i say that this is not that difficult to do yourself. You'll basically disconnect the cables from the battery, follow the cables down (in mine they were housed in a loom and had a connected plastic housing that attached to the frame below the power steering pump). You'll unhook this plastic housing, removing the positve cable from the starter, mostlikely you'll be able to unattaached it from the passanger side wheel well or from under the vehicle. Then you'll remove the ground (from the block - REMEMBER where this was connected --mine had many options to choose from it seemed when I reconnected mine).

Head down to the auto parts store and match up the length and then begin the installation process. I would advise to start up top, lower the cables down, connecting them to the block and the starter then re-work the plastic housing and loom. From here on out you should be good.

Hope this helps and good luck.

Yep, couldn't be simpler. get some masking tape and label everything, then there is not chance of an error.

Are you sure the cables are bad and it's not just the terminals? Either way, I'd put some heavy duty terminals on. I put brass marine terminals on mine, and it worked out good for connecting accessories.
