I replaced my shift bushings in my 94' 4Runner yesterday it took about a half hour and I have to say,WOW what a difference, Nice & Tight again.

It feels like a brand new truck, no more rattling coming from the center console while driving, shifting from gear to gear is tight again.

Before I replaced the bushings, even when parked the shifter had loads of play in it.

A little extra info, the bushing part #'s for my 94' 3.0 auto are 90385-11003 for the two top bushings that go right under shifter and 90480-17177 for the one under the truck by the tranny.

i ordered the bushings on saturday
mine is getting real bad

 

I have done this on both my rigs....85 and 87...world of difference...cost about $40 to replace all the non-reusable parts. Must do maintenance.

 

'86 22RE five-speed - is this something I need to do? 244K miles, there is a bit of slop in the shifter.

If you want to know EXACT part numbers...let me know. Bag of stuff is still sitting on my workbench. Same parts for the 85 or the 87.

 

According to Evan at Northridge Toyota,

Just about every other year can use a new shifter seat only. However on my 1988, I needed to order a new shifter assembly. I tore my tranny out and when I pulled the shifter, the seat was completely disintegrated.

I ordered it last week and will be watching for it next week. Will know more what is happening when it arrives.

 

I paid .75 cents each for the two upper bushings and a $1.40 for the lower bushing at Toyota of Orange, I did'nt have to replace the shift boot itself because it was'nt worn.
