Unhappy Death of a project...

Well, it all started yesterday. I was on my way to run some errands and was enjoying my BRAND NEW neoprene seat covers. I had the windows down, the radio up and was just cruising down the road. Then it happened...

TOCK TOCK TOCK TOCK TOCK TOCK!!!! It was coming from the engine, and I knew that I had just thrown a rod.

Or so I thought. I actually, as it turns out, locked a wrist pin (wtf is that, anyways?). So, my baby is now dead

This is awful seeing as I now have $0 to fix it, I won't have the crappy 3vz fixed, and I can't get enough money together for a 5vz or a 1uz.

BTW, it has Stubb's SKO's, 33x10.50 BFG AT's, and brand new (sat in once) neoprene seat covers. Add in that it is a manual with the R150F transmission, and I think it makes a great project truck.

SO!! What do the great minds of YT think I should do?

If you have alternative transportation, Cover it with a tarp and save up some money. Trucks with bad engines sell for so much less than if it had the 3.0 even. Save up for a new engine. The 5vze swap is supposed to be pretty easy as far as swaps go, but the 1UZ nets alot more power and they're supposedly indestructable. :-)

Sorry to hear that. I agree though, don't sell here...Park here covered on the side of the home and let her age like a fine wine until the funds are there to revive the project!

i agree with everyone, park it save some money. put another 3.0, 22re, or even 5vze in. i regret selling my 88 p/u in the reverse situation, had a great motor 77k original miles but needed many many other things. i wish i had it, so ya dont sell yours.

Wrist pin = that piece that connects the piston to the connecting rod.

Where are you from, the 1800's? Women have the right to vote and other things now. Go educate yourself.

Thanks habanero, just couldn't visualize what one was.

For everyone else: Thanks, that's my vote right now, too... The garage needs a new unmoving hunk of metal!

AUYota, you're from Auburn? Do you have a picture of your rig?

Yeah, but the 3vz is SUCH a peice of ÅÅÅÅ, I just can't justify spending anymore than I already have on such an awful engine when I can pick up a used 1uz for 300-500 and rebuild it myself. The only bad part? No money to buy one... And no time to do so, I'm trying to get a job

Hahahahaha.......HEY!!

That's it, TC, you're getting a case of blinker fluid! And a horse's gall bladder! And some cross drilled brake lines! And some piston return springs!

dont forget about the camshaft rotational dampeners, the engine bypass oil kit, and the exhaust O pipe!

ps - and the 3vze is NOT a pos, poeple just dont know enough about it! That combined with a touch of corporate/dealership stupidity and it got a bad rap!

I assume Corvair's dont have water pumps? lol Here i was going to say that ya cant forget the hypereutectic (sp?) pistons for that RX7, but damn you got me beat! hehe

All I gotta say is that your '65 husband is one helluva lucky man! Got any single sisters that are into cars and toys like you? lol j/k!

oh yeah i should probably post aboot the origional subject! hehe I say park her in the garage and swap in a GM performance 502 RamJet mated to a 4L60e with a STOUT shift kit, build, and a nice 2500rpm stall and freakin HOLD ON!! Although the carb'ed LS-2 for 5200 is lookin REALLY damn good...particularly with 440ish HP!! After either of those 2 swaps you'd NEVER be able to get the smile off of your face!!!

Yeah, I do believe that it's gonna get garaged. However great the LS2 or 502 swaps sound, I have really been wanting to drop in a 1UZ as a kind of daily driver, but mainly for bad weather and local driving only.

In the meantime, I may be winning an auction on a MK3 Golf GTI in a little more than an hour. I'm thinking that would be a FUN daily driver and track car.

Anyways, wish me luck, I need to win this auction!!

YAY!!! (ok, that was kinda girly, but oh well...) I am the proud owner of a 97 GTI!!!

Looks like the 4Runner is gonna get parked and become just another one of many unmoving hunks of metal that have inhabited the basement in the past.
